Northeast Guidance Center’s 53rd annual meeting and board induction was held Tuesday, November 15, at the Detroit Historical Museum, 5401 Woodward Avenue, Midtown Detroit, allowing our guests access to view artifacts in the Detroit Historical Society’s collection before the program.
Attendees met and greeted friends along the Streets of Old Detroit and strolled through reproductions of historic stores such as Kresge’s “5 & 10 Cent” and Sanders Confections. Sated with food and drink, guests moved to the Louise C. Booth Auditorium for the program. Developed around the theme of housing, experts spoke on real estate development, financing, supportive services and partnerships for the redevelopment of our Eastside neighborhood. Our guests speakers included Alexis Wiley, City of Detroit-Chief of Staff, Virgil Williams, Manager for the Clinical Practice Improvement Department-Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority, Burney Johnson, Deputy Director-Michigan State Housing Development Authority and Patricia Wolschon, Director of Homeless Programming-John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. Community leaders, volunteers, staff and persons served were recognized and the evening concluded with an announcement of the name of the new Mack-Ashland Community Center – The John Van Camp Community Center.
