The 20th Annual “I Like Me”, art and
poetry self-esteem contest is a perfect way for students in grades
kindergarten to eighth to express their artistic abilities.
Northeast Guidance Center (NEGC) and Assistance League to NEGC
are encouraging Detroit and surrounding communities’ youth to submit
entries by Friday, December 14, 2007.
“Our children’s lack of self-esteem should be the concern
of parents, teachers and mental health professionals especially with a
significant number of students who are seriously at risk for poor
academic achievement and low-test scores.
We must nurture our youth and use our influence to increase
self-esteem”, said Cheryl Coleman, CEO And President of NEGC. “Now
more than ever, we must provide activities promoting and building
self-awareness and self-acceptance to develop productive citizens.”
Teachers are encouraged to use class time for children to draw
a picture or create a poem about why they “Like” themselves. The “I
Like Me!” contest is a fun and positive school activity that
invites class discussion on self-esteem to promote mental wellness and
confidence.
Teachers and parents may print out the entry form below or call
313-921-9340. All entries
must be postmarked by Friday, December 14, 2007 or delivered to the
Northeast Guidance Center, 5555 Conner, Suite 2224, Detroit, MI
48213. Parental
consent is required.
